Fundamentos essenciais de uso:

Possessive adjectives show possession or ownership. We also use them for relationships between people.

The adjective must agree with the possessor (the person who has the item).

Always located directly in front of the noun.

Formula: Possessive Adjective + Noun

O que você NÃO deve fazer:

No Plural "S"

"Our cars are expensive."

Não adicionamos "s" ao adjetivo quando o substantivo está no plural (ex: ours cars está errado).

Its vs. It's

Its = Possession (Dele/Dela)
It's = Contraction (It is)

"The dog wagged its tail."

Sentences in Context

"My car is very old." Meu carro é muito velho.

"Her boyfriend is very friendly." O namorado dela é muito simpático.

"Our dog is black." Nosso cachorro é preto.

"Their homework is on the table." O dever de casa deles está na mesa.

Direct Translation

"My pen is black."

Minha caneta é preta.

"Our child is intelligent."

Nosso filho é inteligente.

Teacher's Tip 💡

Remember: Unlike Portuguese, the possessive adjective in English does NOT change based on whether the object is masculine or feminine (My = meu/minha).
